GATA - Gold Anti Trust Action
The Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee (GATA) is a nonprofit organization that advocates for investigation and disclosure of what its supporters portray as manipulation of the gold and precious metals markets. GATA was organized in the fall of 1998 and formally incorporated in January 1999 in Delaware. It was founded by Bill Murphy, who operates LeMetropoleCafe.com, and Chris Powell, a Connecticut newspaper editor, who together established GATA to oppose and litigate perceived collusion aimed at suppressing gold prices and influencing related financial instruments. The group has pursued antitrust-style litigation, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and public outreach, including organizing international conferences and publishing documents it says show central bank and government involvement in gold market interventions. GATA maintains a primary online presence at gata.org and has historically distributed regular updates through its GATA Dispatch. (gata.org)
